World War ii ncdu monument

  • On June 6, 1944 (D‑Day) , the Allied invasion of France began with beach landings by the Naval Combat Demolition Units, followed closely by the U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division. At Omaha Beach —and under intense German fire — American soldiers secured the shoreline and pushed up the steep embankments to storm German bunkers, machine‑gun nests, and establish a new airfield for Allied forces. In the days that followed, thousands of troops, along with tanks and equipment, advanced along these same routes. These historic paths remain visible today and clearly define the boundaries of our monument site.

The monument site, now a designated monument park, has become a natural convergence point for tourist routes to the beach, biking paths along the beachhead, and pedestrian and vehicular connections leading to the town center.
