national submarine museum

  • To see a submarine surface in the middle of the ocean the ocean - - a 380 foot long, 7,800 ton vessel - - seemingly out of nowhere is a humbling thing. Ocean waves crest around her as she rises. The design of the exterior attempts to freeze that moment in time. The Museum is a double shell skin system, with the outer later comprised of a curvilinear metal panel skin system with dot matrix pattern. The parametrically design pattern is that of actual ocean waves of white foam.

The Museum is conceived of by the client (confidential) as the “Galaxy of the Ocean.” STEM Education is critical to the overall mission of the Museum, so creating spaces and exhibits that communicate to both the youth and seasoned veterans is essential. Creating exhibits that allow visitors to experience “sub life” and come away with the knowledge that submarines have more technology inside of them than a space shuttle is key to the museum experience.
